Global production records in 2006 for Toyota, Honda

TOKYO (AFP) - Toyota Motor Corp and Honda Motors have said that their global production hit records last year thanks to robust sales in North America while Nissan Motor and Mitsubishi Motors slipped.

Japan's top automaker Toyota announced a 9.5 percent increase in global production to 9.018 million vehicles, the 15th straight annual increase, although it fell below December forecasts of 9.05 million.

Toyota, on the path to snatch the crown this year from General Motors as the world's number one automaker, increased production in Japan for a fifth consecutive year at 10.3 percent. Overseas production went up 8.6 percent.

The pioneer of hybrid cars last month forecast production of 9.42 million autos in 2007 amid strong demand from the United States.

Honda Motors, Japan's number-three automaker, also reported an all-time high of 2.728 million vehicles produced in 2006, up 7.5 percent for a 10th consecutive annual rise.

Honda increased production by 30 percent in China and 9.8 percent in Japan. Production growth in the US was milder at 1.6 percent while in Europe production dropped 3.9 percent, the company said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Japan's number two automaker Nissan Notor said its global production dropped 7.7 percent to 3.238 million units in 2006 as its market share eroded at home and it launched few new models overseas.

Nissan, which is owned 44 percent by France's Renault, saw domestic production tumble 14.9 percent. It reported a drop of 2.6 percent overseas.

Mitsubishi Motors, which ranks number four among Japan's automakers and is the only one in the red, also reported a decline in production for 2006, of 3.6 percent to 1.313 million vehicles.

However, smaller-scale Mazda Motor announced a 12.1 percent increase to 1.285 million units, with overseas production reaching a record high and domestic output at its highest since 1994.

Honda to Recall Elysion Minivans

Honda Motor Co. will recall 72,597 Elysion minivans over a defective lock on its sliding doors, Japan's transport ministry announced.

Japan's No. 2 automaker said it had received 27 complaints about the locking mechanism defect in the minivans, but no reported accidents, according to documents filed Thursday with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The company plans to replace the defective locks, the ministry said.
It was not immediately clear if any of the minivans had been sold overseas.

Honda a mai oferit pana la sfarsitul aniilor ´90 asa ceva si la noi in EU, apoi pentru vreo 5-6ani a fost scoasa din program,iar conform oficialilor, tocmai din cauza faptului ca nu a fost cerere pentru asa ceva, dar incepand cu 2006 exista iarasi, cel putin in Germania si sunt sigur ca si in alte tari vestice.
In germana ii spune "Mobilitätsgarantie" si dupa cum spune si textul de mai sus, e vorba de o extindere partiala a garantiei de 3ani (incheiata la dealer si nu direct cu Honda), totul se calculeaza dupa niste date fixe precum varsta masinii, km parcursi, putere, etc.
Spre ex. la a mea o calculasem acum vreo 6 luni si la 35.oookm parcursi si o vechime de 2ani, ar fi costat 270€ pentru o perioada de 2ani.
Am renuntat fiindca experienta mi-a dovedit ca nu am nevoie de asa ceva.
Cert e ca pana anul trecut, in toata perioada aceea cat nu s-a oferit asa ceva, Honda a fost cam printre ultimii constructori ce nu o ofereau si si-au auzit multe critici.......dar presa europeana e obisnuita cu alt tip de rasnite care daca s-ar putea, ar trebui asigurate ca un Rolls..
