Lumea e inca foarte sceptica la hibride, mai ales daca fac casa cu un motor mare, gen V6-ele de pe Accord-ul american. Dar vor da buzna cu siguranta cand vor vedea pretul petrolului ajuns la 100$ barilul (Doamne fereste).

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - The Toyota Prius hybrid car, when equipped with optional side impact airbags, got top marks for front and side crash protection in crash test results released Sunday by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The Institute recently completed its tests of 2006 model year minivans and small cars. The Kia Sedona was the best-performing minivan in the Institute's tests and the Subaru Impreza and the closely-related Saab 9-2X were the best-performing small cars.
In its side impact test, the Insurance Institute hits the vehicle with a barrier that resembles the front of a sport utility vehicle or pick-up truck. That type of impact represents a much graver risk of head injury, and therefore a greater risk of death, than an impact from a car.
Vehicles without head-protecting side airbags generally perform poorly in the Institute's side impact test.
Without the optional side airbags, the Prius earned the lowest rating of "Poor" for side impact protection.
In the side impact test without side airbags, the barrier hit the head of the crash test dummy in the driver's seat of the Prius. The force of the impact was enough that a serious skull fracture and brain injuries would have been likely in a similar real-world crash.
"The result for the Prius with its optional side curtain airbags was dramatically different," Institute president Adrian Lund said in a prepared statement. "This time the airbag kept the dummy's head from being struck by the barrier, and injury measures all were low. These results show the importance of head-protecting side airbags in reducing the risks for car occupants, especially when their vehicles are struck in the side by a pickup or SUV."
The Prius received the second-lowest rating of "Marginal" for whiplash protection in rear impacts because the design of its seats didn't do enough to protect an occupant's neck, the Institute said.
Among small cars, the Subaru Impreza, the closely related Saab 9-2X and the Honda Civic performed best in the Institute's tests, earning a "Gold Top Safety Pick" overall rating, which means they earned the top rating of "Good" in front, side and rear impact tests.
Results for the Impreza do not include the performance-oriented WRX version or the closely related Saab 9-2X Aero. Because of their propensity to be involved in more crashes and in more severe crashes, the Institute does not give "Top Safety Pick" ratings to performance-oriented cars regardless of how well they perform in crash tests, said Lund.
The poorest-performing small cars were the Suzuki Forenza and Reno, Saturn Ion and Kia Spectra.
Those cars received the second-highest rating of "Acceptable" for front impact protection and ratings of "Poor" for side impact protection. The Ion performed poorly in side impact tests both with and without optional side impact airbags. The Kia Spectra and Suzuki Forenza and Reno performed poorly in spite of having standard side airbags.
Minivans
The best-performing minivan was the Kia Sedona which also earned an overall "Gold Top Safety Pick" rating.
The Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna and Nissan Quest minivans all earned "Good" ratings for front and side impact protection. The Odyssey earned a "Marginal" rating for whiplash protection while the Sienna and Quest were given "Poor" ratings.
The worst-performing minivans in these safety tests were the Dodge Caravan. the closely related Chrysler Town & Country and the Mazda MPV. Those minivans received "Acceptable" ratings for front impact protection and "Poor" ratings for side impact when tested without head-protecting side impact airbags. When tested with head protecting side impact airbags, the Caravan and Town & Country received "Acceptable" ratings for side impact protection. The Mazda MPV was not tested with side airbags.
When side airbags are optional on a vehicle, the Institute tests the vehicle without the airbags installed and will test it again with the airbags if the manufacturer requests the test and pays for the additional vehicle.

era de asteptat. piata subcompactelor este sub 2% din vanzariloe demasini noi. nu se va extinde semnificativ cu introducerea Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris si Nissan Versa.
