Compact SUVs are now all the rage, and here’s what Honda’s future player could look like. The Japanese giant’s Urban SUV Concept was teased back in December 2012, but here are some official images that have surfaced ahead of the concept’s Detroit debut.
The Urban SUV a B-segment crossover based on the next-gen Jazz, and Honda says it’s “a global concept model combining a sporty and dynamic SUV profile with a spacious, functional interior.”
The most famous car of this sort is the Nissan Juke, while newer entries include the Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur and Chevrolet Trax. Ford has the EcoSport, a Fiesta-based SUV that has been recently caught testing in Thailand. Baby CR-V anyone?

Next up on the 2013 Detroit Auto Show embargo-break-a-palooza: the Honda Urban SUV Concept. Thanks to Indian Autos Blog, we now have the first press shots of the small crossover concept – a vehicle that will someday make it to production, riding on the Honda Fit platform.
It may have some big features – namely, the large headlamps, big wheels, and bold body lines – but the Urban SUV Concept will compete with smaller vehicles like the Nissan Juke or Fiat 500L. Indian Autos Blog reports that both 1.6- an 1.8-liter four-cylinder engines are being speculated for use in the production model, as well as a diesel powerplant for foreign markets.
That's all we know for now, but stay tuned to see the full smattering of official images and details as part of this week's Detroit coverage.

The first official pictures of Honda's new Detroit auto show-bound Urban SUV concept hit the web today showing the Japanese carmaker's study from two different angles. Honda hasn’t released a lot of information on the Urban Concept other than saying that it is "a global concept model combining a sporty and dynamic SUV profile with a spacious, functional interior."
Last fall, however, Honda's president Takanobu Ito revealed that the carmaker is developing a small SUV based on the next Fit/Jazz subcompact with the intent to have it in showrooms around the world by 2015. All intel points to the Urban being this model.
The Urban's primary rivals will be the Buick Encore and Nissan Juke in North America, and a multitude of sub-compact SUVs in other markets such as the newly presented Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur, Opel / Vauxhall Mokka and Chevrolet Trax in Europe.
Engine options will be shared with the next generation of the Jazz and will include diesel units in select markets.
